I am sure that this topic will interest... okay, at least one of you. (Hi, Lolly!)
Let's talk about Broadway, yo! I am absolutely not talented in musical theatre, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate it. I haven't seen very many shows, but I'm trying to educate myself because a girl I know is legit the most talented person I've ever met. And she just got back from a week in NYC where she got to perform with other high schoolers and work with Broadway stars. (Yeah, I know, it's like WHAT. SO COOL.)
Anyway, this girl, Hannah Arnold, played Millie in her school's production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" this past spring. She was amazing. And "Millie" is my current favorite show. I have the songs stuck in my head all the time even though it's been months since the show.
SO. That's that. Tell me about YOUR Broadway-related interests!

Katie, you sure know how to get me reeled in! I'm a Broadway-hoe. Although I've been a fan of musicals for as long as I can remember, my self-education on musical theatre started after I became a Julie Andrews fan, who's not only a big advocate of the arts in general but also has a great background experience on the subject. I suppose that would also explain my fondness for composers such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Weill, the Gershwins and last but certainly not least - the master of all that's great in MT - Stephen Sondheim. To my great sadness, I've never attended a Broadway show. Hopefully one day I'll be able to remedy that situation. Everything I know or that I am familiar with comes from listening to plenty of cast recordings, watching YouTube videos and reading books and reviews in general. I'm currently obsessed with Once the Musical. It tells the story of two people (Guy and Girl) who fall in love with each other during the collaborative process of creating music together. Aside from the extremely evocative songs, what drew me into it is the underlining of the story and the celebration of music itself. Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti are incredibly talented. I usually find myself in tears when I listen to the OBCR and I can only imagine what they're able to deliver to a live audience. I'm so jealous of your friend, Katie! "Millie" is a great show but I'm not as fond of the score as I am fond of the story itself - it's so funny! And I love love love the movie. Carol Channing kills me.

Hahahah, just trying to make sure people stick around. Is Once the Musical based on that movie of the same name that came out a few years ago? Or is the movie based on the musical? (Or are they... not related.) Ahh, I saw the movie, too! I love that Julie Andrews has like an inner monologue about her "fronts" and how her necklace doesn't lie flat. Gets me every time because I totally know how she feels. XD

The musical is based on the movie. From what I've heard, the musical is even better - if that's possible!
I love when they do "The Tapioca". That is one sticky song, if you can call it that. I try to remind myself to be more like Millie -- unspeakably fatal! LOL
